Obie Clifford honored at dinner

A dinner on September 30th at the New York Yacht Club, sponsored by Russ Reynolds, was a very special evening to honor Obie Clifford for his founding work and decade of dedication to The Wild Center, the Natural History Museum of the Adirondacks. Obie has dedicated much of his personal time, effort and resources to a broad range of philanthropic interests over the years, the crown jewel being the creation of The Wild Center.  Obie’s vision has become a reality as the museum begins its fifth year, with strong visitor attendance and private financial support, and this was a perfect time to celebrate his hard work and accomplishments.

Many of Obie’s closest friends and family were in attendance to enjoy cocktails and hors d’oeuvres in the Grill Room followed by a four-course dinner in the lovely Model Room, capped off with a chocolate mousse “ring ding” dessert decorated with The Wild Center’s otter logo.  Guest tables brought the Adirondacks to New York City with splendid woodland centerpieces of tall mountain laurel and ferns amidst tiny Adirondack chairs and native critters.

The guests were entertained by concert pianist Randall Atcheson’s medley of classical, jazz, gospel and patriotic music followed by a rousing performance by the Class of ’54 Whiffs, Obie included. Obie was presented with a printed memoir book of letters and photographs and the evening ended with a lively sing-along.
