Forthcoming letter to all classmates

Dear Classmate and Member of the ’54 Family,

Faneuil Hall, Boston -- the Cradle of Liberty .  Come see it all and retrace history so well described in John Adams and 1776 by David McCullough ’55!

At our 55th reunion Boston was the popular choice by voice vote, and your class council has reaffirmed this.  The planning committee for this reunion has settled on June 1- 4, 2010.  Save the date!   Since this follows the Memorial Day weekend, it offers the opportunity to explore New England landmarks removed from Boston like Plimoth Plantation or a weekend at Martha’s Vineyard .  We have enclosed a Classmate Survey sheet and we urge you to return it in the provided envelope no later than November 15, 2009.  Please check off your level of interest in the possible tours and events so we can get an impression of preferences.

We have secured rooms at the fabulous Marriott Long Wharf at Boston harbor for a reasonable rate of $219 per night from Tuesday to Friday, June 1-4, and extra nights at the same rate may be available May 31 and June 4-5 for those who want to explore additional attractions.  This waterfront hotel is ideally located for short walks to areas of interest.   http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/boslw-boston-marriott-long-wharf/

Reservations are first come first served and may be cancelled without penalty up to May 30, 2010 so book your room soon at:

One of our biggest tasks will be to winnow down the many great attractions while providing options for  varied interests.  Opening festivities Tuesday, June 1 will include a cocktail reception, dinner with speaker at the Harvard Club, Wednesday evening the choice of a Boston Harbor cruise, a Red Sox game or the Boston Pops, and Thursday when we will have a gala dinner and dancing at the elegant Somerset Club on Beacon Hill.  We will end the reunion with a super brunch on Friday morning at the hotel.

We hope to cap the cost for this four-day adventure around $700 per person to cover reunion meals and events.  Hotel and travel to and from Boston will be extra.  You will receive a full registration package before the end of the year to actually specify your choices. Your early response to the enclosed form will help us to shape this planning.

We look forward to entertaining you with the best of Boston next spring.  Please check our website at  www.y54.org for the latest updates and general information.
