  THE CLASS OF 1954 –NEWSLETTER

September 2011

This is an interim communication on stuff that can’t wait until the November 15 Class Notes in the Alumni Magazine

 THE GAME

The class of 1954 Harvard Game event will take place on November 19 in the “Yale Class of 1954 Field”. We will start with a continental  breakfast in the Smilow Field House at 9:00 AM and proceed across the Jensen Plaza to the  Class of 1954 Sky  Box

(now protected from the icy winds by a sturdy fabric enclosure), where we will watch the game and have lunch. As usual, we will celebrate our victory back at the Smilow Field House with a cocktail party with any dignitaries that we can find at the game, and hopefully, listen to some songs by our amazing 1954 Whiffenpoofs. Please join us and fill out the attached Reservation form that is enclosed. You will need a game ticket to enter the parking lot.

 HONORS

The night before the GAME, November 18, Harris Ashton will be honored with a Yale Athletics George H. W. Bush ’48 Lifetime of Leadership Award at the Blue Leadership Ball.

 THE BOWL

Irving Jensen and his brothers continue to glorify the Yale Bowl with brick columns and flagpoles at the main entrance at the Jensen Plaza . They are erecting a four foot statue of Handsome Dan on a pedestal just outside the main gate. (There will be an armed guard prior to the Harvard Game to deter those Cambridge hoodlums from defacing Dan). Irving also noted that 2014 will be the 100th anniversary of the Bowl – as well as our 60th reunion. We hope to coordinate the two momentous occasions!

 CLASS COUNCIL MEETING

The Class Council Meeting will be held on Thursday, November 17 at 4:00 PM at the Knickerbocker Club in NYC. We will be discussing the mini-reunion in Seattle in September 2012 which will be run by Jerry Grinstein and other eager classmates yet to be identified. All members of the class are invited to the meeting to watch in awed silence or even speak up. Our meetings are better when we have a controversial issue, so let me know if you have an axe to grind. If you plan to attend, please contact me about cocktails and dinner reservations if you want to join us after the meeting.

 DUES

You will be receiving a letter soon from our Treasurer, Irving Jensen, about your class dues which are used for the Yale Alumni Magazine, Reunions and letters like this.
